GHD Straightener Changed My Life

This is not me. But this IS how my hair looks without my GHD straightener.
I am big on straightening my hair. My mama blessed me with some wonderful features, including patience and kindness, but she also decided to pass on her unruly, curly, frizzy hair. Growing up there was no salvaging my look. I always pulled my hair back into a ponytail and wore a headband, hoping for the best. If I tried to fix my hair it would fight back and be poofier than ever. To say I coveted the straight, shiny hair of my friends would be an understatement. I would lay at night wondering if I just shaved my head, would it grow back in straight? Because then it would be worth it! It wasn’t until I got a GHD straightener that my whole world changed. I didn’t have to shave my head. All I had to do was use the right tools. I cannot tell you the difference this has made in my life. I threw away all my headbands - I had quite the collection. I stopped coveting. I started living.
Ashley Greene, My Favorite Sparkle Vamp
Eclipse, the third movie in the ludicrously popular Twilight Saga just came out, and you know what that means: TWILIGHT FEVER. I hope you’re ready for this, because it’s going to continue for the rest of the summer, the rest of the saga, and - quite possibly - the rest of your life. There is one thing that irritates me about all of this Twilight talk though; as soon as a new movie comes out, it’s all K.Stew this and R.Pattz that. I mean, come on, people! There are other attractive young folks in these movies! Take Ashley Greene for example. She’s my favorite sparkle vamp! (Yes, for those uninitiated into the Twihard universe, the reason why vampires can’t go out in the sunlight isn’t because they will burst into flames and perish; no, it’s because their skin is so sparkly and they are so beautiful that mere mortals will cower before their attractiveness. Hence the term “sparkle vamps.” Take that, Nosferatu!)
The thing is, while Ashley - who plays psychic sparkle vamp Alice Cullen in the movies - is quite pretty on screen, she’s absolutely stunning on the red carpet sans her amber-colored contacts and pasty white pallor. Her hair, while cute in the films, is downright sexy in real life. I wonder if she uses a GHD straightener?
I know my GHD straightener is the first place I turn when I want to create a look like this. All you have to do is dry your hair, divide it into 1″ sections and run your straightener over each section until all of your hair is uniformly straight. Practice your smoldering gaze and coat yourself in body shimmer and you’re practically a Cullen yourself!
Keeping Your Straightener in Good Condition
As any flat iron fan will tell you, heat styling tools are the easiest way to straighten hair without chemicals. All I have to do is glide my GHD straightener through my naturally wavy (and, all too often, frizzy!) hair, and voila! Beautiful straight locks that look totally natural. I would be lost without my GHD straightener…and that’s why I took the time to figure out how to properly care for it in order to make sure it stays in good condition for years to come. Here are some hints:
- Allow your straightener to cool completely before putting it away. I like to rest mine on a heatproof rubber mat.
- Never wrap the cord around the flat iron - it will fray and eventually break.
- Store your straightener in a special pouch or carrying case to protect it from dust and dirt.
- If the plates have residue or product buildup on them, clean with a soft cloth or a special flat iron cleaner. Don’t submerge your flat iron in water for any reason!
I’ve found that these tips offer a good way to make sure you’re getting the most out of your straightener. Does anyone have any additional flat iron care tips to add? I would love to know if there’s anything I’m forgetting!
Taylor Swift's Straight Hair
I have to admit: I love love love Taylor Swift’s naturally curly hair. I think it is just gorgeous and I covet those beautiful ringlets. So when I saw this picture of her with straight hair, I almost didn’t recognize her. I almost didn’t believe that it was her. Doesn’t she look like some sort of supermodel? I never realized how much of a difference straight hair could make on a girl. And while I still love her curly look more, I totally respect her desire to switch up her style now and then.
I thought about all the hair drying and flat ironing that must have gone into making this work and I bet they had to go heavy duty with the flat iron they used. I wouldn’t be surprised if they busted out the heavy artillery and used a GHD Straightener. I swear by my GHD straightener and I know quite a few stylists that are on Team-GHD too. They really just deliver a higher degree of perfection when it comes to straight styles. And with the high power that they pack, they can make straightening a snap.
Straight Hair = Instant Makeover
Everyone loves a makeover. Whether you’re terminally bored with your hair or you just want to switch it up for a day or two, there’s one way to completely revamp your looks without making any permanent alterations: Use a straightener! Straightening your hair will give you an instant makeover. Even your closest friends might have to do a double take when you first walk into the room! Jessica Szohr (Vanessa from Gossip Girl) illustrates this perfectly. On the left, Jessica sports curls, and on the right, her hair is sleek and straight. She looks great both ways, but the difference is certainly dramatic. With curly hair, she looks cute and playful, but with straight hair, she looks sexy, edgy and modern. Which look do you prefer?
It’ probably no surprise that I think Jessica looks hotter with straight hair. I love to duplicate this look for myself using my GHD straightener. All you have to do is start with clean, dry hair and a high quality GHD straightener. You could also prep your hair with a thermal protectant beforehand if you want. Then, part hair down the middle and divide into smaller sections. Run your straightener through each section (one or two passes at most should do the trick). Finish with a little shine serum and you’re ready to start tongues wagging on the Upper East Side…or wherever you may live. Gorgeous, right? That’s why I can’t live without my straightening iron!
GHD Straightener: Worth it!

I feel glamorous with my GHD straightener - like Scarlett Johannson looks!
I decided to finally go for it and bought my GHD straightener a month ago. I was debating for awhile about which straightener to buy - there are so many out there! And even though the GHD straightener was on the more expensive end of the spectrum, I figured I should go ahead and spend more money now on a quality flat iron instead of buying a cheap one and then needing to replace it soon. I’ve been down that road and there is nothing more frustrating than when I’m running late for work in the morning, I’ve dried my hair and then I go to polish it off with my flat iron and it doesn’t work! Those are what I like to call my “hat days.” Well I can confidently say that my “hat days” are long behind me now! I love love love my GHD straightener! My hair is so shiny and sleek - I don’t know how it does it, but I swear my hair looks healthier since I started using my new GHD. I have been raving about it to my friends so much that they are sick of hearing it….so here I am, spreading the good news to you. If you’ve been debating with yourself over the purchase of a GHD straightener - just take the plunge. It was worth every penny for me!
Stop Battling Your Hair! Buy a Straightener

Stop struggling to straighten your hair!
Whether your hair is naturally curly, naturally straight, or somewhere in between, you could probably benefit from a high quality GHD straightener. All too often it seems like women are simply fighting against nature, battling their natural textures in order to achieve styles that just end up falling flat as soon as they encounter a little humidity. Instead of tearing your hair out - literally - with combs and products and irons that just don’t work, why not invest in a GHD straightener that will get the job done easily every single time? Ever since I bought my GHD flat iron, it’s been a whole new hair world for me! My locks are always smooth, straight and swingy - not like before, when everything was frizzy and ugly. My hair is naturally straight to begin with, but every time I washed my hair things would go haywire and the frizz would set in. Now, as soon as I use my GHD, everything is beautiful! I also have friends with naturally curly hair who also swear by their GHD irons. I recommend this brand for any woman (or man!) looking for awesome hair. You really can’t go wrong when it comes to an easy-to-use flat iron that won’t damage your hair, and really delivers on style.
Dakota Fanning and KStew; 2 Girls 2 Looks
Look at this picture of Dakota fanning and Kristen Stewart aka KStew from Sundance 2010; they could not possibly look more different. Beside’s their clothing stlye being completely different, their hair is also. The funny thing is that I adore both looks. Now, I know what you’re thinking. Just look at Kristen’s hair! What look? It just looks like she got out of bed…right? Well, maybe she did. But I also know that to get hair to look messy like that you actually have to do quite a bit to your own hair.
First off, you can’t really tell, but her hair is definitely straightened. So the first step to get Kristen’s look is to straighten your hair. I use my GHD straightener and it takes no time at all, which is actually a miracle considering how my hair never fails to misbehave. The way her hair is cut, very choppy, is what gives it that little bit of bounce in the front. If you get it cut like that, once its straightened, that’s what it will look like. Next, I would grab some moose or maybe some gel if you want it to look a bit greasy (yes people actually have to try to get it to look like that) and spread some along your fingers. Then run your fingers through your hair, start at the front and brush your hand back, especially through the top of your head where your part is and voila!
Now onto Dakota; her hair is straightened too. For a completely different look, using same GHD straightener, part your hair down the middle and straighten it carefully. With a GHD, this shouldn’t take you very long. See how shiny her hair is too? She probably has some kind of product in her hair that gets rid of any errant frizz..something that is sleakening and shiny. Apply it to your own hair and take careful considering of the part, you don’t want anything sticking up.
Two completely different girls, two completely different hair styles. The most important part of any look is to own it, and they definitely are.
Bangin' Style like Camilla Belle
Ever since Camilla Belle came onto the scene and screen with her cave man movie a few years ago, she has been known for her strong eyebrows. Well, that, and dating one of the Jonas Brothers. And for being stunningly gorgeous. When I saw this picture of her I recognized that it was a beautiful girl but I almost didn’t recognize it was Camilla because her signature bold eyebrows are hiding under her blunt bangs. I really like this hairstyle on her though. In fact, I liked it so much I took this picture into my stylist and said, “I want to have bangs and hair like this, please.”
My stylist warned me that it wasn’t going to be that easy. I was going to have to do a bit of maintenance to get my hair looking as straight and sleek as Camilla’s. Luckily, it isn’t going to take me too much work because I have an awesome flat iron. I got a GHD straightener about six months ago and the difference it makes when I style my hair is amazing. It gets so hot that I only need to run the iron over my hair once and it is perfectly straight. With my old Conair I had to go over my strands two or three times before I started to see a degree of sleekness. Needing to only go over my hair once not only cuts down on styling time but also protects my hair from too much damage. Now, if I could only grow my eyebrows to be as stunning as Camilla’s…
Lady GaGa's Hair Rocks My World
She may be a polarizing character but I think that is what she is going for…you know who I’m talking about: Lady GaGa. I think she is brilliant. Not only is she a super talented musician but the way she has turned being a celebrity into being a chance to showcase avant garde fashion totally rocks my world. My favorite hairstyle of her’s - so far - is when she has her hair stick straight with blunt and thick bangs. I love how white blond it is too. Now, I realize this may be a wig - in fact, it probably is. But that doesn’t make it any less fierce. I recently dyed my hair this winter white shade and I can’t wait until I go skiing and see how awesome it looks surrounded in snow.
The only problem I have about recreating this look is that I don’t have a really good straightener to give me that smooth and sleek look. I have been reading up on straighteners online and it seems like the GHD straightener might be a really good choice for me. I definitely want to go high end with this investment because the less time I have to spend getting my hair to look fierce, the better. I feel like the more professional my straightener, the more professional my look.
Get Wavy Hair with your Straightener
What were the big hair trends of 2009? While 2008 may have seen a lot of loose, beachy waves in hair, 2009 was all about looking more styled without trying too hard. So the wavy hair was still around but you could tell it had been styled with more than just finger combing. One of the most effective ways stylists were able to make wavy hair look polished and yet still natural, was to use flat irons instead of curling irons to create curls. Flat irons, like the GHD straightener, create a more natural wave because the curl that is created by wrapping the hair around the barrel isn’t a spiral curl. Instead it is a curved curl that is more likely to be found in naturally wavy hair. Even if you already have naturally wavy hair, using a GHD straightener to define your waves will only enhance and polish your entire look. The idea is to use your straightener like you would use a curling iron. Wrap a small section, about an inch, of your hair around the barrel. If you have a thermal protector glove, you can actually wrap your strand around the barrel without clamping it between the plates. This will help to eliminate that crease that can happen with the hair is clamped. Instead you will end up with perfectly coiffed waves like Scarlett Johannson.
Hope for my Hair
I started first fretting over my hair in middle school. All of sudden I noticed that my girlfriends had pretty straight hair that they could do anything with and that no matter what I did with mine, it would be a curly, frizzy mess. I tried straightening with curling irons and blowdrying but still my hair would be curly the second I stepped outside. I gave up somewhere around junior year and just let my hair be curly. It looked awful though and I became known for my headscarves. Had to discuss the fluff somehow! It wasn’t until recently that I discovered the GHD Straightener and it changed my life. I can make my hair straight and people think it is naturally that way. It is luxury I never thought I would experience in my life.
Joe Jonas Hair Secrets... a GHD Straightener?
Teens, tweens, and even moms across the globe swoon over the Jonas Brothers. But what’s the secret behind their rocking hair? It’s a given that Joe Jonas uses a flat iron, but many adoring fans would love to know what type of hair straightener he uses. Some beauty professionals have speculated on the possibility that he uses a GHD straightener. Why? Because these are considered to be the best flat irons on the market today… far better than a CHI straightener, Tourmaline, and others. With someone at the status Joe Jonas is at, it’s only natural that he would use the best for his hair no matter what it costs. Fortunately, these hair irons are a one time investment… spend $200 now and you can have the highest quality iron that will last for years to come. When you take that into account, it’s actually not that expensive considering that you will probably use it on your hair almost everyday. So don’t base your purchase solely on price. Sure you can go buy a cheap iron at CVS, but imagine how much more time you will have to spend styling you hair because it will take longer to receive acceptable results.
You may not be a rock star like the Jonas Brothers but that doesn’t mean you can’t have crazy cool hair like they do! Isn’t your hair worth it? Don’t cut corners. Go with the best. Go with a GHD.
Miley Cyrus Hair for Moms, too!
My daughter is such a big Hannah Montana fan and I have to admit to being swept up in the Miley-Fever too! She is turning into such a beautiful young woman. Miley Cyrus may be inspiring my daughter to be a singer, but she is inspiring me to straightening my hair more often. I love the youthful yet sophisticated look of long straight hair and I have found that the best way for me to get it is with my GHD Hair Straightener. I have tried nearly every straightener on the market but this is the one that gives me the best results. When my hair is stick straight I feel like a rock star. And every mom should feel a little rock-n-roll cool now and then!
Getting Ashlee's Hairstyle
You know who’s style I love? Ashlee Simpson. Say what you want about her music or her personal life, but her hair always looks fabulous. I especially like the way she experiments with color and length. I love her hair when it is bright red and super stick straight. My hair is naturally curly so I thought it would be impossible to replicate her look. Even when I use straighteners it seems to still look “puffy” not sleek like Ashlee’s. Which is why I was so excited when my stylist told me to get a GHD straightener. I could not believe the difference using this flat iron made. My hair looks sleek, rarely frizzes out and you would never guess I was hiding a curly mane under my straight style. Rock on!
Protect Hair When Straightening
The thing I like most about my GHD straightener is how my hair looks naturally pin straight when I use it. I am not sure about the technology GHD uses but it is worth every penny. I have never experienced such consistent and natural results with any other flat iron. I try not to use it everyday because I do not want to risk heat damage and I make sure that every time I do use it I protect my hair with a thermal spray. My sister fried her hair growing up, flat ironing everyday. Sure, she used a cheap iron but still, I am not taking any chances. I want my hair to stay healthy and sleek looking for as long as possible!
Zac Efron Flat Iron Hair Shocker!
Zac Efron has received tons of criticism for being too metrosexual… including his hair. But did you know that he flat irons his hair? It’s true. It’s also rumored that he uses a GHD straightener to get that super sleek look he’s famous for. Some go so far as to say that not only does he flat iron his hair, but there are also Zac Efron plastic surgery stories running rampant across the internet. But back to the hair straightener story, what do you think? Do you think that he uses a CHI or GHD hair iron?
GHD is known for giving superior power when it comes to straightening your hair. They make many different types and styles that are a great way to give you the sleek and sexy hair you’ve always wanted. The great thing about the new series of GHD VI series is that they work internationally no matter what electrical connection you have.
Paris Hilton Inspires Short Hair Cut
Paris Hilton is so much fun to watch! She always has something up her sleeve and I love how she is always experimenting with her style. When she cut her hair into a short bob, she inspired me to do the same. I went to my stylist, brought in this picture and told her to work her magic. She told me that she may be magical but if I really wanted my hair to look like Paris’ I would have to invest in quality flat irons. My hair is naturally wavy but I hoped at a short length it would be easier to manage. Turns out a short style can be a lot of work too! But my stylist told me to look into GHD straighteners because they could get my hair looking the way I wanted it to quickly. I am so glad I got that piece of advice! Even though Paris has changed up her style since this picture, I have not because I love my haircut and my GHD straightener!
How to Use Your Straightener: The Basics
Your GHD straightener can be one of the most important tools in your hair styling arsenal - as long as you know what to do with it. Confused by your flat iron? Here’s a quick guide to mastering your GHD straightener and getting the smooth, sleek hair of your dreams:
- Start with clean hair. Hair with too much oil or product build-up may have trouble retaining its style.
- Always apply a thermal protectant before using any heat styling tool, including your GHD straightener.
- Never use your GHD straightener on wet hair, unless it’s a special wet-to-dry model.
- Make sure your hair is combed through and completely detangled before straightening.
- Separate hair into small sections for straightening rather than attempting to style large sections at once.
- When you’re satisfied with your look, use a non-sticky finishing spray to give your straight hair staying power.
- Experiment! Your GHD straightener is more versatile than you might think. You can also use it to make flips, waves, and curls. Try it out!
